I spent most of my time on the computer yesterday researching blogs and learning how to start a blog and what mistakes to avoid. Feeling slightly overwhelmed at the moment but less because of all the technical stuff, SEO, Social media, affiliate marketing, and more because of this one piece of advice that I keep hearing about the social side of blogs. Networking and getting to know other bloggers and making meaningful comments on their pages getting them to refer back to yours. I struggle with this because honestly the blogs that I love the most are not like the blog I want to write.
I would love to read this type of blog that I want to write but I’m not finding it. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places. However most of the blogs I’m finding are purely finance, or they are centered around stay at home moms. Or they are about minimalist travel fiends (yes, I’m interested in some elements of minimalism but that isn’t how I want to define myself or all that I’m looking into), or people trying to live the simple life and get off the grid (I live in the city with no aspirations for country life).
Maybe I’m just finding established blogs where people have completed the majority of their journey and I don’t get to travel with them. I’ve tried, on a couple different sites, to find a blogger’s first post or first few posts. However today it seems that many blog posts are no longer dated, and everything is sorted by topic rather than date. You get to see and re-see their most popular posts. I think the frugalwoods do one of the best jobs of archiving their journey even though they are past their main goal now. A couple bloggers in their “how to start blogging” posts talk nostalgically about their early posts and struggles but I can’t really even find their first experiences.
I don’t have kids, I have a full-time job and I like it. I would love to make some money off this blog but I‘m not looking to replace my income stream and work from home. I’m not criticizing these blogs I love reading their articles. I find value in their articles. I’m just looking for something a bit more in line with where I find myself at the moment.
So, I know it’s not good nettiquite but please, if you are out there trying to figure out what you want to be doing with your life be it more intentional about finding joy or purpose or whatever you want to call it (maybe you are still uncertain about what that looks like for yourself) please post a link to your blog in the comments below.
